As vocal artist Toni Pope has been likened and compared to some of the most progressive and avant- garde singers of our time. Singers such as Meredith Monk, Laurie Anderson, Diamanda Galas, and Bjork offer a similar cutting edge singer's mentality. At times though, Pope however incorporates Eastern vocal phrasing, throat-singing, the smooth vocal grace of Sarah Vaughn, and the gospel power of Aretha Franklin. Watch out, you're in for a surprise!
She's toured and played with musical artist in Europe and United States. Artists collaborations include Eddie Gale, Paul Ill, Rudiger Oppermann, Enkh Jargal aka Epi, India Cook, Kimara Dixon, and Kele Nitoto. She got an early start experimenting with voice on the dance theatre stages of Berlin Germany with choreographer Diana Dragos. She has been featured on selective recordings with classical composer Stefan Levin.
Currently she holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a music minor from Chapman University. She's attended the Berkeley Jazz School in Oakland California on scholarship. Presently Toni Pope resides in Southern California where she occasionally participates in collaborations with the San Diego and Los Angeles Avant-garde and World Music community.
